We moved away from Colo Springs in June, 2004. Why, to get away from the increasing cost of living, higher taxes, increase in Crime, (serious crime), drive by shootings, stabbings, etc. As well the increase in population, the continual building of homes, apartments and commericial buildings when theywere already plagued with hundreds of empty structures, the beginning of foreclosures, and a decrease in road maintenance, the list goes on and on. What was once a beautiful place to live in has now deteriorated to a large, unkempt, crime ridden, congested part of these United States. Unfortunately!!!! There needs to be a moritorium on building houses, apartments, etc. It is obvious that the City and County are unable to stay on top of the game without working great amounts of overtime, working at night because of the traffic congestion and even the daylight hours are dangerous when attempting to travel around town or go to a shopping mall. Why is it, that from the Mayor on down, common sense does no longer exist. How much more are they going to ruin the City, so many people when they moved here thought The Springs was going to be the Utopia they were looking for. We had talked about moving back to Colorado Springs from a State in the Southeast, but are now pulling back on the reins and looking at the situation with a jaundiced and cautious eye. We had lived in the Springs for over 30 years and that is where our children and grandchildren are still living. We want to be with them as we get older and enjoy the “Golden Years”, but we are beginning to become very hesitant in moving back to Colorado Springs as we do not need the congestion, crime, and high cost of living. As an example: we pay $17.00 per month for our water usage and around $125 to $150. for electric. This is running the Air Conditioner, and maintaining an all electric home, to include heat in the Winter. This article most likely won’t be published in the paper or otherwise, but at least we have vented somewhat over the deterioration of a once fine and beautiful place to live. Thanks for giving us the opportunity to share our feelings with you.
